Good Manufacturing Practices for Cosmetics (ISO 22716)

ISO 22716 certification provides GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines for cosmetic manufacturing. While each country has its own cosmetic GMP regulations, ISO 22716 was established as an alternative to bridge regulatory differences between countries.

Established as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for cosmetics, ISO 22716 provides guidelines for the production, control, storage, and distribution of cosmetic products. It is implemented to prevent harmful substances from being included in cosmetics and consists of 17 requirements. These cover infrastructure management such as human resources, buildings, and equipment, as well as comprehensive management of manufacturing processes, systems, and operations from raw materials to finished products—enhancing the reliability of both products and systems.

Importance of ISO 22716

ISO 22716 is becoming a mandatory requirement for cosmetic exports. In particular, the new EU regulation on cosmetics requires manufacturers to comply with harmonized standards, and ISO 22716 is the designated harmonized standard.

Expected effects of ISO 22716

  • Enhances international recognition when exporting abroad
  • Recognized during overseas cosmetic GMP evaluations
  • Establishment of a cosmetic manufacturing management system
  • Facilitates the implementation of GMP
  • Enhances competitiveness in cosmetic exports
  • Continuous improvement and management of hazards and risks related to cosmetics
